Goodrum & Merryweather
From her studio in Norwich, Alison Goodrum makes ‘smart and splendid’ hats and headpieces under the label, Goodrum & Merryweather. Be it a trilby or a toque, each piece is handcrafted the traditional way using the finest materials. Working to commission for private clients as well as supplying eminent retail partners, Goodrum & Merryweather has a reputation for being narrative-led with clean design, immaculate finish and a dash of drama. Geometric ribbon-work is a signature trim.
With a twenty-year career as a dress historian, Alison holds a PhD (2001) and a professorship (Norwich University of the Arts) and is former Vice-President of Costume and Textiles Aotearoa New Zealand (CTANZ). This background, in turn, is a keen influence on her millinery practice; the characters, stories and cues unearthed in the archives often inform her designs and making.
An enthusiastic advocate for the craft of millinery, and active member of Heritage Crafts, Alison is an experienced tutor and offers workshops, demonstrations and lectures.
