Crowning Glory: All The King’s Colours

The British Hat Guild were delighted and honoured to partner with The Jockey Club and Go Epsom once again in 2023, raising vital funds for Brain Tumour Research. A collection of 22 hats was created by our members, to feature in an online auction throughout May and June. The hats were exhibited over the Coronation weekend at the QIPCO Guineas Festival in Newmarket (5 – 7 May) and The Derby at Epsom Downs on 2 and 3 June; an event loved by the late Queen who attended on all but five occasions in her 70-year reign. Also on display was a signed set of royal silks from the previous year’s Platinum Jubilee Derby where the most successful Royal jockeys from across the sport created a guard of honour.

The hats were all one-off pieces and were fashioned in combinations of scarlet, purple, black and gold, the colours of the royal racing silks, to celebrate the Coronation.

The hats were modelled by celebrities, patients, and others affected by the disease, including mezzo-soprano Laura Wright, TV racing presenter and former jockey Leonna Mayor, presenter and former model Rosie Tapner, and actor Vicki Michelle MBE who is working closely with the charity.
