Chloë Scrivener

Since beginning my journey as a millinery intern at Philip Somerville in 1996— and returning nearly a decade later—I have cultivated a deep and enduring expertise in the craft. I had the privilege of working under renowned milliner Philip Treacy OBE, contributing to Haute Couture shows across London, Paris, and New York from the late 1990s through to 2000.

My career spans roles as a theatrical milliner at Angels the Costumiers and includes freelance collaborations with celebrated names such as Bridget Bailey and Piers Atkinson. I have also created theatrical hats for productions at Theatre Royal Stratford East and the Royal Opera House.

Alongside my creative practice, I am deeply committed to education and the sharing of craft knowledge. After earning a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education, I began teaching millinery at Kensington and Chelsea College. Over the years, I have taught and developed programs at several prestigious institutions, including London College of Fashion, where I led the Short Courses Millinery Department and developed both in-person and online courses for a global audience.

I have also taught at the Arts University Bournemouth and recently collaborated with USITT on specialized millinery programs.

In 2022, I returned to education and completed an MA in Historical Costume with distinction. I am now pursuing a PhD at AUB, where my research explores the hidden histories of making and material culture, with a particular emphasis on millinery.
