Ellie Vallerini

‘Twist & Shout’

Using the vintage veiling and sinamay as a starting point I let the hat take shape through the materials I used, letting this become my inspiration. A collaboration between my own creativity and the fabrics used.

This hat is a modern twist on classic vintage english styles. Soft lines, feminine silhouettes and classic black and white colour scheme.

Price: £795.

Materials and Techniques

Sinamay, silk, vintage veiling. All shaped freehand .

Millinery Heritage

After gaining a BA Hons in Contemporary Crafts from Falmouth College of Arts I began my Millinery career in London, training with several top UK Milliners before being offered a post as Designer/Maker for Royal Milliner John Boyd in 2012. Over the next six years I developed my millinery skills alongside Mr Boyd and worked closely with individual clients at the Knightsbridge atelier, designing the perfect hat for each customer. I now draw on this wealth of knowledge and skill to design and make couture hat collections each year under my own label as well as collaborating with stylists and designers on a variety of commissions for TV, film, music videos and theatre. Keeping the art and craft of millinery alive is do important, in the age of technology creating something by hand feels even more special and something to be cherished and preserved.

I am half Italian and although have grown up in the UK I feel my draw to Millinery is a connection to my own heritage. The term Milliner originates from the city of Milan, full of chic design and beauty which I hope comes out in my own designs
