Coronation of King Charles lll and Queen Camilla Saturday 6th May 2023

It is a great honour that several British Hat Guild members created headwear for members of the Royal family to wear on this great State occasion. The work of many more members adorned the heads of the invited guests.

Philip Treacy OBE

Philip created the three purple and ermine caps of maintenance worn inside the three crowns used during the Corona@on. The St Edward’s crown used for the actual crowning, and the Imperial crown worn at the end of the ceremony. Her Majesty Queen Camilla wore Queen Mary’s crown.

Jess Collett

Working with the team at Alexander McQueen, Jess made the glorious headdress worn by HRH Princess of Wales and more simple design for HRH Princess Charlotte.

The unexpected headdresses worn in place of the more traditonal tiara caused quite a sensation in the press, creating a whirlwind period for Jess.

Jane Taylor

Another headdress, inspired by the botanical references embroidered onto HRH Duchess of Edinburgh’s dress was created by Jane Taylor. Created from satin leaves set on a bespoke headband and encrusted with Swarovski crystals, it was trimmed with bespoke silver snowdrops made by jeweller Eliy O’ Connell.
